WASHINGTON – A Calvert County Sheriff’s deputy fired several shots Monday after his patrol vehicle was intentionally struck twice by another driver.
Around 3:10 p.m., deputies and Maryland State Police were called to Route 261, west of Quail Drive, for a report of a deputy-involved shooting.
According to the , a patrol vehicle being driven by Deputy First Class Richard Wilson was struck by a pickup truck, left the road and skidded backwards through a fence.
The driver of the pickup truck then drove off the road and intentionally struck Wilson’s vehicle again, and accelerated to push the vehicle down an embankment.
Wilson fired several shots through the patrol vehicle’s windshield toward the pickup truck. According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect was not struck and got out of her vehicle and began to flee the scene.
A citizen who had seen in the incident unfold helped Wilson apprehend the suspect.
The name of the suspect has not been released at this time, and no charges have been announced. The incident remains under investigation.
