Metrobus strikes, kills pedestrian in Northern Virginia, police say

A man died after a Metrobus struck him at Bailey’s Crossroads on Sunday night, the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Officers responded to the intersection of Carlin Springs Road and Columbia Pike for a pedestrian crash involving a F20 Metrobus at 8:32 p.m.

The man, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the Metrobus driver remained at the scene.

Carlin Springs Road was closed in both directions following the crash, and police advised drivers to use alternate routes.

Fairfax County police said detectives with its Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating. Metro Transit Police said in a that Metro supervisors and officers are assisting.

No additional details about the victim or the circumstances of the crash were immediately released.

Sterling man charged in fentanyl case linked to Park View High School overdoses, sheriff says

A Sterling, Virginia, man has been arrested and charged in a fentanyl distribution investigation that the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said is connected to overdoses involving Park View High School students. The sheriff's office said Isaac Melendez-Carranza, 31, was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance and one count of sale of drugs near certain properties. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office told Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø that Melendez-Carranza is in the U.S. illegally and that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement "has placed a detainer on him." Investigators with the Drug and Gang Unit identified Melendez-Carranza as a suspected dealer connected to overdoses involving Park View High School students in May, according to the sheriff's office.
