WINCHESTER, Va. (AP) — A National Â鶹¹ÙÍø Service team is heading to northwest Virginia to see if a tornado touched down north of Winchester and into West Virginia’s Berkeley County.
The thunderstorm Wednesday pelted the region with hail the size of golf balls.
The Winchester Star (http://bit.ly/SFvLyt) reports that storm damage from southern Berkeley County and an area north of Hayfield in Frederick County included downed tree limbs.
The National Â鶹¹ÙÍø Service will be looking for downed trees to determine whether a tornado touched down.
Trees that are uprooted or twisted off at the top typically indicate a twister.
