WASHINGTON – A stretch of D.C. 295 was closed to traffic for more than three hours Friday after a tractor trailer became wedged underneath a railroad overpass triggering long delays along the highway and connecting corridors.
The lanes reopened about 1 p.m.
District transportation officials closed the highway from Pennsylvania Avenue to Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue in order to move the truck and inspect the bridge.
The railroad bridge was not marked with any visible height restrictions.
The truck became wedged after 9:30 a.m. at the overpass, which is north of Benning Road. Two cars were also involved in a related wreck. No injuries were reported.
