WASHINGTON — A car plowed into a group of counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, the scene of a white nationalist rally on Saturday.
One person is dead and at least 19 are injured. The driver of the car that plowed into a group of protesters is in custody, reports say.
The name of the victim will not be released until next of kin is notified, officials say.
Charlottesville Mayor Mike Stigner tweeted about the death, pleading with protesters to leave the streets.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in response to the violence Saturday morning.
