WASHINGTON 鈥� A vigil was held on Sunday night in honor of 35-year-old Tonya Wilkerson-Sullivan. Police say she was shot and killed last month by her husband, 37-year-old Antoine Elvin Sullivan, who then turned the gun on himself at their Upper Marlboro home.
Friends and family members gathered to remember the 35-year-old mother of four, but to also talk about the issue of domestic violence. Olivia Franklin, friend and neighbor of Wilkerson-Sullivan, says she hopes her friend鈥檚 death will encourage others to speak up.
Prince George鈥檚 County, Maryland with the most reported cases of domestic violence.
鈥淥ur goal 鈥� what Tonya would have wanted 鈥� was to promote awareness to domestic violence for every man and woman,鈥� said Priscilla Merritt, a friend. 鈥淪peak up, say something.鈥�
Tonya鈥檚 godfather also had a message for those attending the vigil: 鈥淒omestic violence 鈥� don鈥檛 touch, walk away.鈥�
