WASHINGTON — Pope Francis is set to visit the U.S. soon and many businesses are gearing up with some papal-inspired foods and drinks.
Hungry and thirsty people can celebrate the pope’s historic visit to D.C. with a sandwich, a beer or a meal at a “Pope’s Table.”
Check out some of the pope-themed treats:
- Beginning Sunday, Sept. 20 and continuing all that week, in D.C. will be serving a lineup of two dozen Pope-inspired beers. Some simply have a religious theme, such as Epic’s Big Bad Baptist. Others are Trappist beers brewed by monks, such as St. Bernardus Tripel.
- D.C.’s is throwing a Pope Party on Tuesday, Sept. 22 on its rooftop, with all proceeds going to So Others Might Eat. There will be a DJ and TV monitors set up so you can follow the pope’s movements. The $25 tickets include one glass of Malbec.
- D.C.’s restaurant has a limited edition Pope Sandwich made with marinated grilled chicken breast, chimichurri and holy land relish (it’s a condiment widely used in the eastern Mediterranean). The $10 sandwich is served with potato chips, and half of the profits from the sale of the sandwich will be donated to the St. Maria’s Meals program. The restaurant’s Luis Valle tells Â鶹¹ÙÍø, the sandwich is only available for a few weeks, at least through the pope’s visit.
- Every Buca di Beppo restaurant has a “Pope’s Table” surrounded by statues, photos and other tributes to popes past and present. Michael Pirerra, Paisano Partner (General Manager) at the D.C. location tells Â鶹¹ÙÍø its table can hold 10-18 people, and it has a bust of Pope Francis on it. Give the restaurant a call if you’re interested in booking it.
- in D.C. is offering a Pope’s Pizza based on the yellow and white Vatican flag. The pizza is made with marinated golden tomatoes, mozzarella and ricotta. The pizza is $15, or you can grab a smaller $6 version during happy hour from 4-7 p.m.

- Trinitas Cellars in Napa Valley has a limited edition 2012 Cabernet Franc for the Pope, called — of course — . It’s available online for $75 a bottle.
