WASHINGTON — The Baltimore Orioles have traded their lone All-Star, Manny Machado, to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for a package of prospects, including Double-A outfielder Yusniel Diaz, according to multiple media reports.
reports the Orioles will receive a total of five prospects, headlined by Diaz, the Dodgers’ No. 4 prospect and consensus top-100 prospect entering this season.
Baltimore also receives third baseman Rylan Bannon, right-handed pitchers Dean Kremer and Zach Pop, and infielder Breyvic Valera.
Machado, 26, has played his entire major league career in Baltimore, notching first-half career-highs in home runs (23), RBI (64), OBP (.384) and OPS (.950) in 96 games this season. This week, the 4-time All-Star became just the second Oriole to start an All-Star Game at shortstop after previously starting the Midsummer Classic at third base, and fourth player in MLB history to accomplish the feat.
Machado will become a free agent after the 2018 season.
