WASHINGTON — If you’re — well, of a certain age, you remember that the
crowning achievement of landing on the Moon was soon followed by people
everywhere using the landmark as a measure of our own foibles.
“We can put a man on the Moon,” people would say, “but we can’t …” followed by
any task that remained frustratingly elusive: “cure the common cold,” “make a
ketchup bottle that opens,” and many more.
Well, a group of scientists landed a spacecraft on a comet on Wednesday, and
in the age of Twitter, it took just took a few hours for the process to repeat
itself.
