River in eastern China turns bloody red

WASHINGTON — In case your day wasn’t weird enough, here’s something straight from an old horror movie.

A waterway in eastern China turned a blood red color this week, but it hasn’t been confirmed how it happened.

Officials from the Wenzhou Environmental Protection Bureau suspect the water changed color because of illegal dumping, .

Also in the ABC report, residents in the Zhejiang province said the river looked normal at 5 a.m. Beijing time on Thursday morning. An hour later, the river turned red and smelled strange.
