Flash flood watch issued as heavy rain possible

WASHINGTON – A cold front moving through the area Tuesday will dump as much as three inches of rain on the D.C. region.

A has been issued for the D.C. metro area from late Tuesday night until Wednesday afternoon.

After a mild Tuesday afternoon with temperatures expected to be around 60 degrees, showers will begin in the late afternoon and continue through early Wednesday morning. The heaviest rainfall is expected late Tuesday night.

The National Âé¶¹¹ÙÍø Service says one to two inches of rain is expected, with up to three inches possible as heavier bands move across the region.

The D.C. Department of Public Works is distributing sandbags at its site located at New Jersey Avenue and K Street SE. They will be distributed between Tuesday between 8 p.m. and midnight, and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to noon.
