WASHINGTON — As temperatures soared into the 90s, people in skimpy bikini shorts, elected leaders, marchers in colorful boa feathers and many others waving the rainbow flag marched in.
The parade of more than 180 contingents wound slowly from Dupont Circle 1 and a half mile to the Logan Circle neighborhood, keeping in step with bands and recorded music blaring from floats.
Crowds were heavy along parts of the route and families with children were among the parade watchers. Several marching units tossed plastic beads and candy to the people lining the way.
Actor Lesile Jordan served as parade grand marshal and Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby marched in shorts and a T-shirt with the rainbow flag draped over his shoulders.
