DC police shoot, kill man with BB gun

WASHINGTON — D.C. police officers shot and killed a suspect who wouldn’t drop his weapon, which turned out to be a BB gun, on Monday night in Northeast.

Police say in a statement that they were called to the 100 block of Varnum Street, in Northeast, shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday for a report of a man with a gun. They say that they found someone with a weapon and demanded several times that he put it down. Instead, he pointed it at the officers, who fired.

He was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition, but later died.

Afterward, police say, they recovered the weapon and discovered it was a BB gun.

They haven’t identified the suspect yet, but will do so once next of kin is notified.
