Redskins-themed restaurant coming to Dulles Airport

WASHINGTON — The Washington Redskins Burgundy and Gold Restaurant is among the latest additions the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will bring to Dulles and Reagan National as part of its four-year plan to step up local restaurant flavor at the two airports.

If you want to satisfy your Chick-fil-A craving before your flight, you can do that too.

The new Redskins-themed restaurant will be accompanied by a stand-alone exhibit featuring the history of the NFL team since moving to the nation’s capital nearly eight decades ago.

“The Redskins have been a part of the Washington, D.C., region since 1937, and having a presence at Dulles International Airport — a premiere gateway to the Capital Region — is a natural fit,” said Terry Bateman, Redskins executive vice president.

Both airports have added outposts of local restaurants as part of the retail redevelopment — not only to make airport food better, but to make Washington’s airports more D.C.-centric.

“As soon as people step off their planes, we want to create an immediate image of the nation’s capital by providing a look and feel of this unique area,” said Chryssa Westerlund, MWAA’s marketing vice president.

Others in this latest round of airport additions include the first airport Chick-fil-A at Reagan National, as well as Pei Wei, an Asian-fusion restaurant, and a second Wolfgang Puck restaurant, both at Dulles.

Over the last two and a half years, the two airports have added more than 120 new restaurants and retailers — many of them local, including &pizza, District Chophouse, Chef Geoff’s, Ben’s Chili Bowl, Mike Isabella’s Kapnos Taverna and Cava Mezze Grill.

WMAA expects to wrap up its four-year concessions overhaul by next summer.
